3 Things About Prayer You May Not Know

There always seems to be a cloud of mystery behind the fact that we have been given the ability to talk directly to God.
Everyone has their own way to pray. Their own prayer style. That little thing that brings your relationship with God to life.
There are quick prayers, long prayers and raise a hallelujah prayers and don’t forget the all too common, “I’ll pray for you” prayers.
Talking to God for some is easy, comfortable and even powerful but for others it is just plain weird.
Oftentimes, prayer is like the roll of the dice and you are left wondering if your prayers would be answered or not.
But when you pray consider these 3 things about prayer that you may not know.
1. Prayers are two-sided conversations with God not one-sided.
In other words, you are not the only one in the conversation that can talk. Although it may seem strange at first, you DO have a God that talks, and thinks for himself, and feels your pain, and is more than able to tell you how he feels.
There is a real danger though, in praying to God and determining his answer based on whether or not you are happy with your circumstances afterward.
Don’t fall into the trap of praying to God and believing that he only answered you if you received what you prayed for because He just may not answer how you think he should.
2. Prayers may not be answered all at once.
Admit it, sometimes you do want to know what is taking God so long to answer, but there may be other people involved in his answer.
Yes, other people that will play a role in both when He answers you and how He answers you.
It’s like the board of a chess game. All of the pieces are on the board but they need to line up in the right order, for you to win the game.
There may be people that will help you, angels sent to deliver you, and circumstances that need to happen before you get God’s answer.
If it seems like God is taking too long to answer your prayers, don’t get discouraged or give up praying.
Wait, for His answer, whatever it may be.
3. You cannot pray someone past death.
This may be hands down the hardest part about prayer.
Sitting in the waiting room for the operation, as the tick of the clock, is all you hear.
Holding your breath for that miracle to happen.
You’re not the first, to wonder why someone you loved still died after you prayed, so hard to God that they wouldn’t.
You’re not the only person to turn away from God, or at least considered it, mad that He said no to what you were praying for.
An elderly parent, a small child, a newborn baby, even a prayer for your enemy or not lost in the pits of despair.
Whether we like it or not everyone has a day that they will leave this earth and when you think about it, no day is a good day.
There is no allowance to buy more time, and that includes by praying.
When it is ‘their time’ to leave this earth, not even a prayer will stop the clock.
For the saints, that are sick, you should pray and they will be healed—as long as it is not ‘The Day’.
Even Jesus himself, understood that he would have a ‘final hour’ that would come. ‘The Day’ that he would leave this earth.
You heard Me say, ‘I am going away, and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I. And now I have told you before it happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe.
John 14:28-29
This verse tells you two important things.
One, that Jesus knew he was soon to die and leave this earth.
Two, that you can be sure from his very own words, that you know where He is at the very moment that you pray.
So spend your time talking with God, waiting for his answer (no matter how many moves on the board it takes), and cherishing life in prayer to your Father.
Take Action: There are 3 main types of prayer. Pray one (or all) of these prayers, as you go about your day.
- Prayer of Conversation (talking to God)
- Prayer of Adoration (gratitude and thanksgiving prayer)
- Prayer of Request (request needs to be met)
Don’t try to determine what his answer is, watch for it.
Being more comfortable with the 3 types of prayer, is where you should start, until the answer comes.
Love always in the name of Jesus,
